Seven Grandfather Teachings Unit
With the support of my school’s Aboriginal education worker. I was able to explore the seven grandfather teachings with my students. Over seven weeks, my students learned about the seven grandfather teachings. Each one we connected to the animal, the self and the local community.
Students also created their own puppets. These enabled them to develop a greater connection to the animals and the story telling experience.
Quiet Critters
Making quite critters in my K/1 classroom. I designed this activity and worksheets for my students. In my classroom, the quiet critter was originally used as a strategic classroom tool to positively reinforce quiet classroom work. The quiet critter became an area of student interest.
Each student draws what they would like their quiet critter to look like, give it a name are share something about it. In this creation process, students select the supplies and have the opportunity to create their own quiet critter to take home.
Using assisted design and technology, the students brainstormed supplied needed to create their own quiet critter. This is an excellent English Language Arts opportunity for students to engage in a topic of interest.
